Principal Mechanical Engineer – Waltham

Radius Innovation & Development is searching for a talented Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Waltham studio. The ideal candidate will solve complex problems and lead specification, design, and testing efforts. Further, this role will provide leadership and mentoring to continually improve the team and increase capability. The design tasks will be of a complex technical nature requiring investigation of new technologies, and application of advanced engineering design principles and practices. This role will be a recognized leader in mechanical engineering both within and outside the company.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision, responsible for the mechanical engineering elements of a major project, or an entire project of greater complexity than those normally assigned to Senior Engineers.
  • Provide technical supervision to staff level mechanical engineers and other technical personnel, and may be responsible for the administrative duties of a small work group, although engineering work performed is more important than the supervision aspect.
  • Communicate key information and recommendations to influence technical decisions and strategy requiring the principal engineer to stay abreast of the latest technologies, tools, and trends.
  • Define new and existing mechanical engineering design requirements and develop specifications in accordance with manufacturing, marketing, and customer expectations and requirements.
  • Identify and analyze design problems to achieve optimal solutions that satisfy cost and technical requirements using both internal and external technical resources.
  • Formulate new, innovative approaches to solve technical problems on a consistent basis, and mentor the rest of the technical team in these areas.
  • Create and communicate project plans, tasks and deliverables and manage time to meet project deadlines. This includes reporting pertinent information at key milestones through clear, concise oral and written communications.
  • Engage in personal and continuing programs of learning in order to broaden knowledge in mechanical engineering and to gain knowledge in new fields of general engineering to improve individual effectiveness and avoid technical obsolescence.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Master’s degree a plus.
  • 10+ years experience as a practicing mechanical engineer with the majority in a consulting environment.
  • High level experience supporting large complex customer programs across varying industries.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.

Senior Electrical Engineer – Waltham

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Engage early in the proposal process to help assess and understand clients’ needs.
  • Provide electrical engineering input for project planning, budgeting, risk management.

Quality Engineer – Waltham

The position of Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting the product development process and quality management system through development, maintenance and continuous improvement of test, design control, risk management and material documentation. This individual will report directly the Director/Manager – Quality. The individual in this role will bring to bear world-class quality knowledge, product development experience, planning and communication skills to deliver winning solutions for Radius clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify, review and interpret industry, regulatory, environmental, mechanical and electrical standards and requirements
  • Participate in the development and review of test strategies, product requirements and design inputs based on project phase
  • Develop, manage and execute test project documentation including, but not limited to test plans, methods, data, data analysis, data audit, data presentations and reports for concept, prototype (engineering qualification) and pilot (design verification) testing.
  • Select/design, procure and troubleshoot test equipment and fixtures
  • Develop, document and validate test methods
  • Identify, qualify and manage external test suppliers
  • Lead root cause analysis of test failures
  • Participate in design inputs and design outputs reviews
  • Collect and manage content of project design history files (DHF)
  • Participate in quality management system processes and documentation including, but not limited to training records, calibration records, supplier records, engineering change orders (ECO), non-conforming material review (NCMR), corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) and document retention schedules
  • Develop site-level quality management system procedures and templates
  • Lead internal audits and support notified body / ISO registrar and customer audits of the quality management system

Director of Implementation – Waltham

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Radius Innovation & Development is seeking a talented and experienced Director of Implementation to join our Waltham studio. The Director of Implementation will be responsible for providing pre-production product samples and ensuring a seamless transition from product development to high volume production. This person will bring technical insight and excellent planning skills to the objective of creating production-like product that the team can use to verify the product solution. Selecting, managing, and improving outside suppliers is a key element of the position, as well as coordinating and fostering Jabil/Nypro support in product development efforts. This position will be responsible for the financial vitality of the “materials” component of Radius. Additionally, this person will be responsible for improving related department operating systems, and project planning activity.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate for this position must have a strong foundation in project accounting, accounting and/or finance, and experience in transaction processing, cash management, and ERP systems. 

  • Provide manufacturing feasibility input throughout the development process
  • Participate in project planning by proposal writing, planning, and budgeting activities
  • Provide strategic guidance to the team and customers in addressing the pre-production and production needs of the project
  • Qualify suppliers to meet customer’s pre-production needs (i.e. – tool builders, rapid/short run molders, manufacturing development suppliers, materials, etc.)
  • Understand and communicate to the development team Radius-qualified suppliers capabilities
  • Inform and update the development team of new manufacturing technologies, materials, and Jabil/Nypro capabilities
  • Responsible for on-time and on-budget delivery of appropriate-quality product samples
  • Facilitate production supplier involvement through-out the development process
  • Provide part and capital investment information throughout the development process
  • Collaborate with the quality team internally and with suppliers to match expectations with results
  • Define processes and methods to mitigate risk and deliver expected results
  • Fiscal responsibility for the pre-production materials and services profit and loss
  • Manage manufacturing process development activity
  • Responsibility for purchasing of all pre-production parts and services
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s in Plastics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred 

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience developing products and creating rapid production-like product
  • A history of developing products with multi-disciplinary teams
  • A demonstrated ability to manage suppliers and purchasing responsibilities
  • Experience in developing a broad range of injection molded components (small/large, single/two shot, materials, high/low accuracy, etc.)
  • An applied and theoretical understanding of injection molding and plastics
  • A strong understanding of non-plastic manufacturing processes
  • Experience in secondary assembly, decorating, and packaging operations
  • A solid understanding of mold design and construction
  • A solid understanding of injection molding materials
  • Demonstrated experience in Advanced Quality Planning activities
